چکیده

Numerous investigations have been concerned with the effects of acute arrest of cerebral circulation in animals. The earlier workers' studied the effects of ligation of the cerebral arteries . More recently, observations have been made on the effects of temporary occlusion of the chief cerebral arteries 2 and of temporary cessation of the heart beat .$ Using the method of occlusion of the chief cerebral arteries, Sugar and Gerard' measured the survival time for different regions of the cat brain by the persistence of spontaneous action potentials. A careful study of the changes in function and structure of the brain of the cat resulting from temporary occlusion of the pulmonary artery was reported on by Weinberger, Gibbon and Gibbon .b These methods involved one or another of the following complications anesthesia ; surgical procedures at the time of arrest of circulation in the brain ; incomplete arrest of circulation as a result of failure to occlude the anterior spinal artery ; arrest of circulation in vital organs outside the central nervous system, and difficulty of determination of the exact moment of cessation of the heart beat . For quantitative study a technic was utilized which produced sudden complete arrest of blood flow in the brain of the unanesthetized animal without the per-

Effects of mild hypothermia on expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 and heme-oxygenase-1 in cerebral cortex and hippocampus after cardiopulmonary resuscitation in rats

Objective(s): The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of mild hypothermia on expression of NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme-oxygenase-1 (HO-1) of rat cerebral cortex and hippocampus after cardiopulmonary resuscitation and further investigate the possible mechanism of action. Material and Methods:To copy an asphyxia heart arrest model, Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided...

Cerebral hemodynamics during cerebral ischemia induced by acute hypotension.

The extreme dependence of the brain upon its circulation for substrates essential for the maintenance of its metabolic activity is well recognized. A cessation of the cerebral circulation for only a few minutes, as occurs in cardiac arrest, results in irreversible brain damage. The brain, for the most part, is an aerobic organ and its large oxygen demands probably account for its unusual suscep...

Cerebral protection during surgery for acute aortic dissection type A: results of the German Registry for Acute Aortic Dissection Type A (GERAADA).

BACKGROUND Cerebral protection during surgery for acute aortic dissection type A relies on hypothermic circulatory arrest, either alone or in conjunction with cerebral perfusion. METHODS AND RESULTS The perioperative and intraoperative conditions of 1558 patients submitted from 44 cardiac surgery centers in German-speaking countries were analyzed. Among patients with acute aortic dissection t...

A Study of Cerebral Performance Categories Based on Initial Rhythm and Resuscitation Time Following In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest in a State Hospital in Turkey

Background: The cerebral performance category (CPC) score is widely used in research and quality assurance to assess neurologic outcome following cardiac arrest. However, little is known about the results of the CPC in Turkey. Objective: This study aimed to determine whether the CPC is associated with the initial rhythm and resuscitation time following re...
